Architectural Concrete

Concrete, shaped as architecture

In-situ seats, benches, fireplaces and staircases, cast in place and finished by hand. Bespoke concrete structures and surfaces, built on engineered foundations.

Structure & Surface

Formed, poured and finished as one

Some of our most rewarding work is concrete you sit on, walk up and gather around. Curved in-situ seats, built-in benches, fireplaces and sculptural staircases are formed on site, poured in place and finished by hand, so the structure and its surface are designed together from the first sketch. The same thinking sits under every engineered slab and foundation we build.

What We Build

Structures with a sculptural hand

Project · Tara Iti

The seat in the dunes

A curving in-situ concrete seat set into the dunes at Tara Iti, wrapping around a central fire pit. The formwork was built on site, then the seat, its back and the central ring were poured in place and finished by hand, a piece of architecture shaped to its landscape.

Project · Grey Lynn, Auckland

In-situ stairs, two finishes

A flight of architectural stairs cast in place for a new home in Grey Lynn. Each tread and riser carries two finishes: one side exposed aggregate, the other hard-trowelled, divided by a crisp tool joint so the line between them runs dead straight up the flight.

Once the formwork was stripped, every vertical edge was finished by hand, then the whole flight was sealed. Clean arrises, true lines and no patching, the kind of detail that only comes from finishing concrete while it is still alive.

The heritage barn slab

This heritage barn project in Takatu has been carefully planned from the ground up. Being involved from the early stages let us work closely with the owner and builder to develop the right construction methodology, finish design and material selection for the floor.

The 500m² slab features hand-cast terracotta aggregate and 35MPa concrete with 16mm Maungaturoto chip, designed for a full stone exposure grind and polish once the building is complete.
